Collaboration between Physicians, Emergency Department Staff and IT Wins DeKalb Medical, a Sepsis Top Performer Award

DeKalb Medical Hillandale and North Decatur won the Top Performer Awards at the Vizient MidSouth Sepsis Collaborative celebration held on May 11, 2017.

This collaboration, comprised of nine organizations, provided members with the opportunity to collaborate both at the regional and national level to make improvements to effectively prevent, identify, treat and manage sepsis and septic shock.

The DeKalb Medical sepsis team earned the Top Performer Award, resulting in:

  • decrease the length of stay,
  • decrease in mortality rate,
  • decrease in cost per case, and
  • improvements in overall quality of care given to septic patients.

Vizient MidSouth is a performance improvement collaborative organization that help healthcare organizations improve their processes. The collaborative consists of many healthcare organizations that share best-practices for patient quality and safety. Vizient MidSouth connects members to solutions that boost quality and improve to help deliver exceptional , cost-effective care.  This collaborative is an on-going partnership between Vizient and DeKalb Medical.
