As a neonatologist, Mike Armand, MD often comes into his patients’ lives when their family least expects it. Though it can sometimes be a sad job, he said it is also a very rewarding one, especially seeing fragile babies become well and go home.
Dr. Armand has spent his entire career at DeKalb Medical. In 1978, upon completing his Neonatal Fellowship at Emory, he was recruited to establish the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the hospital.
The NICU has grown from a four bed unit to the 42-bed unit it is today. Dr. Armand said the culture at DeKalb Medical is special; it has a close knit, small-town atmosphere that continues to this day; “DeKalb has certainly changed over the years, but the hospital has always been supportive of its community.”
Dr. Armand is a member of the Founders’ Circle, at the Presidential Level, and a longtime sponsor of the annual Charles B. Eberhart Memorial Golf Classic.
