Emory Healthcare Collaboration with Kaiser Permanente

This message is sent on behalf of Robert E. Wilson, CEO, DeKalb Medical; and Jonathan S. Lewin, MD, FACR, President, CEO and Chairman of the Board, Emory Healthcare

Dear Colleagues,

We wanted to inform you that Emory Healthcare announced that it has reached an agreement with Kaiser Permanente to collaborate in advancing patient- and family-centered care in metro Atlanta and beyond through the development of a new care model. Beginning this fall, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown will become the primary hospitals for Kaiser Permanente physicians and members in the Atlanta market.

Kaiser Permanente members will receive care at the two Emory hospitals by The Southeast Permanente Medical Group (TSPMG) physicians who will be on staff and oversee their members’ care experience with support from Emory’s excellent nursing, advanced practice provider, clinical and support staff. They will be additionally supported by Emory Clinic, Emory Specialty Associates and private practice providers for designated specialty care needs.

Some exceptions, such as labor and delivery services, which will be provided at Northside Hospital, will remain in place. Additionally, Kaiser Permanente members will receive care at other Emory facilities when it is considered the best location for that care, as referred by TSPMG physicians.

DeKalb Medical is joining the Emory Healthcare family at a truly exciting time! Both Emory Healthcare and Kaiser Permanente share DeKalb’s commitment to quality, value and exceptional care. This new initiative will not only bolster the efforts of our individual organizations, but it will serve as a national care model for other health systems in Georgia and beyond.

While the timing of the agreement with Kaiser Permanente may coincide with our transition at DeKalb, please be assured that both Emory and DeKalb teams continue to be focused on our integration efforts. We have made significant progress thus far, and look forward to officially coming together in the coming months.

We know that you may have questions regarding this agreement and look forward to providing you with further information at future forums. Thank you for your commitment to patient care and support of each other!

Bob and Jon
